2007 HERO Back to School Supply Drive

Congratulations to all on the success of another year for the Annual HERO Backpack Campaign. We collected 316 complete sets of backpacks and 5 large boxes of extra supplies.  As a result, last Friday, HERO volunteers were flipping backpacks into complete sets and Saturday they were handing them over to the teachers.  The experience is part of being a HERO and is unlike any other when you realize that it is all for the enrichment of education through our schools.

To the Harris employees that made a contribution, many thanks. A student in need of basic supplies to start the new school year is so important to their self-esteem and gives them the proper tools to accomplish their daily tasks. Our schools let us know when a full backpack brings a smile and a change in stature to a student.

The following is a note from one of our teachers expressing gratitude for the backpacks this year.

"On behalf of the needy families at L. B. Johnson Middle School I would like to express our sincere thanks for your generous contribution of backpacks and school supplies.  I picked up 10 backpacks filled to the brim with supplies and an additional big box of school supplies.  I can guarantee that these supplies will be distributed to students throughout the school year. Often times our students are living with grandparents on a fixed income who cannot afford to purchase such "luxuries".  We've also had, over the years, families living at Wickham Park.  Please share with the members of the Harris Hero Program our gratitude for their kindness."

Whether you contributed, collected, delivered, packed them up, or distributed, we appreciate your enthusiasm and support. The HERO Committee would like to give a special "thank you" to our various lobby receptionists, as well as the Backpack Campaign Dropoff Site Custodians and of course to the HERO team members who, as usual, gave it their all.

We want to thank everyone for a job very well done!
